UGANDA’S COFFEE BOOM: A NEW GLOBAL POWERHOUSE IN 2025

The global coffee market is experiencing a historic transformation in 2025. While the world’s top coffee exporters—Brazil and Vietnam—face climate-related challenges, Uganda has emerged as Africa’s leading coffee exporter and one of the fastest-growing coffee economies globally.

Record-Breaking Exports and Revenue

Uganda reached a remarkable milestone in May 2025, exporting 47,606 tonnes of coffee in a single month. The country’s annual exports for the 2024/25 financial year soared to 7.77 million bags, generating $2.22 billion in revenue—a 26.88% increase in volume and a 93.66% increase in value compared to the previous year. Robusta continues to dominate but Arabica exports are gaining recognition for their quality, with sustainable Arabica fetching premium prices globally.

Quality, Innovation, and Market Expansion

Uganda’s coffee renaissance is built on rigorous government reforms: robust quality control, farmer training, and access to high-quality seedlings. These steps, together with growing international acclaim for Uganda’s rich flavor profiles, have positioned the nation’s coffee as a top global choice. Europe—led by Italy—remains the largest buyer at 39%, followed by expansion in Asia and Africa, most notably into the lucrative South African market.

Companies like Grade A Investments Ltd are part of this transformation, ensuring that Uganda’s coffee reaches global buyers with unmatched quality and reliability

Investments and the Vision Ahead

Despite its success, Uganda processes only about 5% of its coffee locally. There is strong momentum and investment in value addition—roasting, branding, and specialty preparations—to capture higher margins and create more jobs. The government's Coffee Roadmap has set a bold 2030 target of 20 million bags annually, focusing on export diversification, sustainability, and empowering smallholder farmers.

International Recognition

Uganda’s rise has been showcased at global trade fairs, including the World of Coffee Geneva 2025 and China’s Canton Fair, attracting new buyers and international investment interest. The sector’s success story is anchored by promotional activities and strong public-private partnerships, unlocking new markets and inspiring other coffee-producing African nations.

Conclusion

With record-breaking exports, rising revenues, and ambitious plans for value addition, Uganda is rewriting Africa’s coffee narrative. As one of the world’s most dynamic coffee origins, its future in the global market looks exceptionally bright.

At Grade A Investments Ltd, we are proud to be at the center of this coffee boom delivering high-quality, natural, and well-processed Ugandan coffee to buyers worldwide.
